Same-day relief

We know you do not want to wait when you are hurting, so we structure our schedule to fit in emergencies. Call us early in the day and there is a good chance we can see you the same day.

When you call, our team will ask a few simple questions to understand what is going on, offer guidance to keep you comfortable until you arrive, and find you the soonest opening we can. Keeping our patients out of pain is one of our highest priorities.

Common dental emergencies

Toothaches, broken or knocked-out teeth, lost fillings or crowns, and painful swelling are all reasons to call right away. Quick treatment can save a tooth and prevent bigger problems.

Other urgent situations include a cracked tooth, a dental abscess, an injury to the lip or gums, or pain and swelling around a wisdom tooth. Swelling that spreads, a fever, or trouble swallowing or breathing is more serious and should be treated without delay, and we will help you determine the safest next step.

If you are unsure whether your situation is an emergency, call us and we will help you decide.

What to do before you arrive

A few simple steps can make a real difference while you are on your way to us. For a knocked-out adult tooth, pick it up by the crown rather than the root, rinse it gently if it is dirty, and either slip it back into the socket or keep it in milk or saliva to protect it. For a toothache, rinse with warm salt water and use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek to ease swelling.

Over-the-counter pain relief can help in the meantime, and if you have a broken tooth, saving any pieces in a clean container is useful. Try to avoid chewing on the affected side, and call us so we can guide you through anything specific to your situation.

Comfortable, caring treatment

When you arrive, we will quickly assess the problem, relieve your pain, and explain your options. Sedation is available if you need extra comfort.

Once you are comfortable, we will talk through what caused the emergency and how to keep it from happening again, whether that means a filling, a crown, a root canal, or another step. Our goal is simple: get you comfortable and on the road to recovery as fast as we can.

Fast help when you need it most

A dental emergency never picks a convenient moment, so it helps to have relief nearby rather than across the city. We are a familiar choice for emergency dentistry in Albuquerque, and patients hurry in from the northwest side as well as Corrales and Rio Rancho knowing our central, easy-to-reach location can get them out of pain quickly.

Dr. B (Boyd Newsome, DMD) keeps room in the schedule for urgent visits and treats every emergency with the same gentle, steady care, calming worried patients while he works. Whether it is a sudden toothache, a broken tooth, or a lost crown, our team's goal is to see you the same day whenever we can and start you on the road to feeling better.
